Out of Bounds
The playing field is a place of stiff rules and boundaries, to which the body is forced to adapt, developing predetermined order and routine. Despite the many differences distinguishing one branch of sport from the next, the same sense of confrontational dispute between two opposing sides is often felt, as the opponents prepare for a showdown.
In this installation, foreignness is not addressed directly, but rather translated into a spatial framework. Competitive bodies from various sports are transported onto a court not meant for them. This displacement challenges the notion of compatibility and control normally associated with sports, revealing its innermore presence as an arena of discipline, conflict, and ongoing struggle between players and the system of rules they operate within.
