The Olympic flame is recognized as an expression of strength, a symbol of continuity between past and present, and of solidarity among nations. In the temples of ancient Greece, fire burned as a symbol of purity and sanctity, while in the modern Olympic Games, the Olympic torch is lit as an expression of humanity’s aspiration toward excellence and progress.

The Department of Visual Communication Design at the University of Haifa’s School of Design presents a series of illustrated matchboxes depicting women in various sports disciplines. This project seeks to draw attention to and acknowledge the contributions of women in sport and beyond, highlighting their strength, determination, and uncompromising drive for achievement.
