Tug of War

Ropes, which are among humankind’s oldest and most basic objects, have served us throughout the ages for a wide range of purposes such as work, play, and ritual. Many cultures worldwide have considered ropes as symbolizing a struggle between opposing forces, in both natural and human social contexts.
This work follows the eponymous game played across the globe, as it redesigns the game’s spatial aspect, and incorporates a custom made rope, handspun by the artists.
We invite visitors to form teams, tug the rope, and examine how simple physical action can simultaneously conjure up both struggle and cooperation.
