Offside

This work presents an encounter between two objects characterized by reduction and external manipulation: a music box and a foosball game.
While both offer a controlled, mechanical representation of something greater, they also operate within repetitive, predictable systems of rules and boundaries. Bringing them together creates a space for exploring a potential action that is never fulfilled.
At the center of the work stands a representation of a contactless game: a circular, dead-end movement that never leads to change; an action without effect or consequence. Within this repetition, perceptions of masculinity and manhood often associated with football players are challenged and subverted. Strength, control, and agency become fragile, decorative objects activated only through external intervention.
Fan chants and songs, translated and arranged for the gentle, intimate mechanism of a music box, further emphasize the transformation of a raucous collective experience into a static and largely powerless action.
