Mozes

In this work, an olympic stadium becomes the set of intense, perpetual running, centered around a fantastical superhero-sprinter. A soundtrack, featuring children repeatedly calling out the surname “Mozes”, echoes the chants and cheers of sports arenas, conjuring up those moments in which crowds elevate a player to nearly mythical status.
“Mozes” explores the mental state of a wartime mother, as well as her role as both a messenger and saviour, while challenging the “heroic mother” myth. The circular stadium, normally associated with ambitiousness, competition and fame, becomes a site of ceaseless effort that goes on endlessly with no clear end in sight. From within the repetitive running action, this work probes the limits of physical and mental power, as well as the chasm separating the ideal of victory from the possibility of never arriving at one’s destination.
