Nothing but Net

“Nothing but Net” reinterprets the term “match point” by coupling handmade craft with competitive sports arenas. The title of this work derives from the moment of unadulterated success in basketball—the perfect shot known as a “swish”, where the ball slips into the basket without even touching the metal rim.
Here, the basketball net stretches to the very ground in the form of handcrafted macramé, mutating from a practical component into a sculptural object bearing disruptive presence. This elongation forces delay and a change of pace on the arena: the ball, trapped in the knotted textile, completely loses its momentum and rolls lazily down to the bottom. Thus, the work suspends the rush of adrenaline and replaces it with an observation of material, of instant gratification and industrial manufacturing versus the inner rhythms of slow, handmade craft.
