DVD.exe

Over the years of the DVD era, the DVD logo and its familiar randomized hovering across the screen have grown into an albeit small but significant moment of shared anticipation: a collective gaze carefully follows the seemingly purposeless motion, waiting patiently for the precise moment when the logo will eventually strike the corner of the screen directly.
In “DVD.exe”, the passive wait morphs into a mechanism of control and interference. Using a joystick, viewers are granted the ability to maneuver and direct the logo’s trajectory, interrupting its autonomous action. This work explores the tension existing in the space between contingency and control; between instant gratification as opposed to its deferment; between a passive viewing and the human urge to intervene, direct, and affect outcome.
