Pom Pom

The pom-pom originated as an accessory designed to attract attention, generate excitement, and organize collective emotion. Over time, it became one of the most recognizable symbols of cheerleading culture and of the production of belonging, identification, and morale. Beneath its colorful and cheerful appearance lies a mechanism whose purpose is to transform a crowd into a unified body—cheering, moving, and mobilized.

In this installation, the pom-pom is enlarged to monumental scale and stripped of its familiar team colors. Its white tones and semi-transparent materials empty it of a fixed identity, shifting attention away from enthusiasm itself and toward the conditions that make it possible. In doing so, the object is transformed from a device for encouragement and cohesion into a space for reflecting on the ongoing effort required to sustain morale, optimism, and a sense of togetherness.
