Bleacher Poems

The veritable drama of a sports stadium unfolds, as it seems, not upon the field, but rather up in the stands, where rules continue to be broken with every flare, smoke grenade and recurring chant. In this space, a collective cheer can erupt into explosive, threatening, and even violent force in a matter of moments.
This project tackles the blurred lines between cheering and aggression, as well as addressing how a crowd becomes a central player in the match’s dynamics. By collecting the songs and calls chanted by sport fans and transferring them into physical, tangible typography, this body of work observes how combined language, rhythm and repetition create a collective force—one with the power to simultaneously unite, incite, discharge and subvert. In doing so, the design becomes an arena where social conventions may be reexamined, along with the limits of permission and taboo, and the impressions left by these moments on public memory.
