Catharsis
Paper stadium stands fill an entire empty room from wall to wall and floor to ceiling. A single beam of light is directed toward 2,500 empty spectator seats, casting the shadow of a motionless sculpture across the walls of the space.
The work reflects on moments of public catharsis under a structure in which crowds gather to witness the drama of competition, articulating through a single material the human energy contained within the stadium, the latent risk of explosion it holds, and the fragile and disorienting threshold between an eruption of joy and the possibility of disaster.
